Hush Cabin in the Coromandel

Coromandel Accommodation: Hush Boutique

We escaped Auckland for a weekend and booked one the best Coromandel accommodation options; Hush Boutique Accommodation was the perfect place for relaxation. The older I get the more I realise that life is too short to stay at accommodation that mimics the inside pages of the Property Press. Sure, I do appreciate a hotel room with chocolates on the pillow and a coffee shop 4 floors down. But my dream holiday would be a cabin surrounded by native bush within proximity to hiking trails, beaches, and beautiful landscape. Lucky for me my husband found exactly that when he booked Hush for our weekend in Coromandel.

Sitting in Coromandel town and planted directly opposite Driving Creek Railway Tours is Hush, a boutique holiday accommodation perfect for a romantic getaway. I first fell in love with alternative style accommodation when we first went glamping on Waiheke Island. Since then it’s been my mission to find the cutest or most unique places to stay within New Zealand.

About Hush Boutique Accommodation

Hush is a small boutique accommodation option for those wanting to escape their crazy, busy lives back at home. But for those who are craving something a little different to what they might find on the streets of Auckland City.

Hush is one of the top contenders for anyone wanting a to spend a weekend in the Coromandel and feel engulfed by nature during the day and night.

Several different cabins sit separately on the property surrounded by native bush and gorgeous boardwalks. You’re given the illusion of staying in a secluded cabin in the forest while being so close to society you could walk home drunk from the pub. The location is perfect for couples who want to bask in their own company, but Hush is also great for socialising outside of your usual circles. The kitchen facilities are common spaces for all guests to use and offer a great outdoor dining setting.

A small lawn is accessible via a tiny swing bridge that suspends over the creek which runs through the property. A perfect place to open a bottle of champagne and play a game of molkky or bask in the sunshine in blissful silence. While enjoying the backyard of Hush we could overhear a fair bit of grunting and snorting coming from next door. And this is when we discovered that the property’s neighbours are a couple of fat siblings named Alice and Ruby… 2 gorgeous Kunekune pigs! If you’re lucky enough they will be sunbathing along the chicken wire fence. Or you might catch them waddling around in the paddock.

Hideaway Cabin at Hush Boutique Accommodation

Accommodation at Hush Boutique

We stayed in the cabin named ‘Hideaway’, which is a fitting name for a cabin hiding amongst native bush and a private little garden to sit in.
The wood cabin was the perfect size for us as two adults. A bunk bed was the main feature with a single bed as the top bunk; just in case you find your significant other is hogging the double bed below. A compact bathroom complimented the space well with enough room for a dining area and kitchen perfect for an intimate weekend away.

A small bar fridge and kitchen bench space are in each cabin. We found the fridges were big enough to fit a 6 pack of beer, bottle of champagne, wheel of cheese and a carton of dip. That’s the only food you need to pack to prepare for a chilled weekend, right?!

There are 6 rooms at Hush and prices can range between $135 to $215 per night.

The pictures below show the shared kitchen space free to use during your stay at Hush. There is plenty of table space to enjoy a meal away from other guests and plastic side curtains so you can use the space no matter what the weather is like.

Getting to the Coromandel Accommodation

Hush Boutique Accommodation
425 Driving Creek Rd, Coromandel, 3506

Hush Boutique Accommodation is a 5-minute drive north of Coromandel township and a 2.5km walk from the closest pub. The location means you’re not right in the middle of what can be a bustling town during summer, but you’re close enough to it to ‘pop’ down to the supermarket, or walk down to the closest pub to stumble your way back after a night of too much alcohol

Other Things to do in Coromandel

Driving Creek Railway Tours

Driving Creek is a trademark tourist attraction of the Coromandel region. They have something for everyone wanting to experience something different on their Coromandel holiday. Railway and zipline tours and pottery classes are all available to book for reasonable prices. Paul and I did a 1.5 hour long pottery class during our weekend in Coromandel. To be honest it was probably one of the best things I have ever experienced, my handmade teacup and vase should be arriving by courier very soon!

Coromandel Beaches

The main reason the Coromandel is a popular holiday destination is because it contains several beautiful white sand beaches. Adventure is abundant within the Coromandel Peninsula, including the pinnacles hike and several waterfalls made to be discovered. Take a drive and see where the road takes you, you never know what you might discover. Because a weekend in Coromandel is not complete without enjoying the beaches!

Paul and I both loved our stay here, despite the small living space 3 nights was not a long enough stay. I live for nature and native bush, so waking up each morning to the sun streaming in the windows and seeing nothing but greenery made my day every day.

If you’re looking for a unique stay but are not wanting to reach too far out of your comfort zone then consider staying at Hush. The homely cabins and fully functioning facilities allow you to detach yourself from your normal life and experience a slow paced lifestyle. Even if it is for a couple of days!
